Comment Spam

I was attacked by some spam servers this week against my comment system. So I had to take my server down while I cleaned up the database and updated my spam filters and blacklisted the evil spam servers.

This got me started on writing spam filter that not only blacklists the attacking server, but will also reverses the traffic back at the server to try and force a denial of service attack on that server. After I test it more I will put it out on Google Code for anyone who wants to play with it.

Also Six Apart has a great doc on techniques to deal with comment spam.

    I am on the fence with Captcha, it works, but usability can be a problem. Thanks for the link those are great, lol.
